DIY Flash Cards to boost your baby’s brain power

Flash card is a great tool to introduce new concepts to a child. These cards are a really handy resource to have and can be useful at every stage of the class. The aim of flash card is a great way to present, practice and recycle vocabulary .

Materials required

  1. Old Picture books
  2. Cardboard or cardstock
  3. Glue
  4. Unused Visiting cards

Method

  • There are many good picture books available in the market for kids. So using these books, I made these flashcards.
  • Cut the pictures from the picture book (Good to introduce basic concepts like fruits, vegetables, vehicles, numbers, etc)
  • Now cut the cardboard or cardstock piece as the size of the picture.
  • Glue the picture to the cardboard/cardstock
  • Use of cardboard gives a nice effect to flashcards unlike the normal laminated ones while cardstock can make the flashcards more durable..
  • For numbers, I have used visiting cards. On the back I have written numbers and drawn the apples accordingly.

Memory activities

Memory Tester is a really fun game to introduce.

  • Place a selection of flash cards on the floor in a circle.
  • kids have one minute to memorise the cards.
  • In groups, they have two minutes to write or tell as many of the names as they can remember.

Note – You can select picture books which have glossy finish so that they can be durable and lamination will not be required.

Was an IT professional and now a mother to a toddler indulged in many creative works and DIY’s and we do many early learning activities along with art and craft. I believe that a mother is the first and the best teacher for a child. I am so amazed by the early learning concept, so I love to share our journey and experiences in the form of my YouTube channel and blog with the name creativemommystuff.
