A lot of things change in a woman’s body during different stages of pregnancy. And so it’s more important for a pregnant woman to feel and look beautiful. Most of the beauty treatments are pregnancy safe but some aren’t.

  1. Facials: It”s completely safe to go for facials but you need to be little cautious about the products. If possible try to go for natural or toxin-free facial rather than chemical based. Also keep in mind that your skin will be more sensitive during pregnancy. Electric currents, chemical peels or treatments like microdermabrasion are not recommended.
  1. Waxing: Evidence shows that waxing is not at all unsafe during pregnancy. Due to hormonal changes skin becomes very sensitive and hair becomes thicker it makes waxing more painful than usual. Sever pain could induce contractions so waxing should be avoided in third trimester. Also make sure the salon you choose is clean and strips are not reused as it could put you at risk of catching infections. Wax should be avoided on open cuts, varicose veins, moles, warts, rashes.
  1. Manicures and Pedicures: There is no harm to get your hands and feet be cleaned. Using nail-paints and nail-paint remover occasionally is absolutely fine but regular use must be avoided. Most of the nail-paints have two chemicals named formaldehyde and toluene which can cause irritation in eyes, throat and lungs and could also cause problem to the baby.
  2. Hair Treatments: This is advisable that one should wait till completion of first trimester for taking hair treatments. Most of the treatments are done with chemicals though if it does not come in contact with skin it is considered safe. You can choose natural hair dyes instead of chemical one like henna or just getting highlights. According to some experts relaxing or permanent straightening should be avoided as these contain chemical Lye which can damage your hair and also strong odour can make you feel dizzy or nauseous.
  1. Massages: According to experts massage therapy during pregnancy is very beneficial as it helps to reduce depression, anxiety, relieve muscle aches and helps in labour. The only thing to be kept in mind that you choose a trained therapist for this task.
  1. Makeup: Makeup is an essential thing for every woman but you have to be more careful when you are pregnant. You should avoid makeup containing parabens or fragrances. These could cause birth defect and miscarriages. Makeup products with artificial colors to be avoided and the most important makeup to avoided is red lipstick as it contains lead. Also keep in mind that sharing your make up may also cause infection.

There are few treatments which you must avoid:

  1. Tattoos and Piercing: Tattoo again contains chemicals and piercing may put you at the risk of getting infections. Piercing on the tummy is not at all recommended as when the size grows it will be uncomfortable for you. Better you wait till your delivery.
  1. Spa/Sauna/ Hot Body Wraps: Such treatments might feel comfortable to you but these are a big No in pregnancy. These may cause your body to overheat which may be very dangerous for your baby.
