5 Tips for dealing with Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is one of the most prominent symptoms of early Pregnancy and normally goes away by end of first trimester. Even though it is called ‘morning sickness’, nausea (with or without vomiting) can happen at any time of the day. It’s very common to be repelled by certain tastes and smells in first trimester. It’s always good  to follow your intuition, as ignoring an aversion could just make you feel worse. Here are few tips to deal with morning sickness:

Ditch Work

Take a short leave during your seventh or eighth week, when morning sickness generally starts to peak. Take rest as much as you can. This time off will help you recover, both physically and mentally.

Eat Snacks which help in fighting sickness

To suppress morning sickness before it starts, try keeping a few crackers by your bed and slowly eat a few before you get up in the morning. Eat a healthy snack before you go to bed at night. This might include fruit (fresh, tinned, dried), crackers with hard cheese or yogurt.

Frequent meals

An empty stomach often worsens the symptoms. So it’s important to eat frequently.  Eat frequent but small meals that are packed with nutrients but on the bland side as acidic, fatty or fried foods can further irritate your digestive system.

Ginger

Ginger is often used as a traditional remedy to settle the stomach and alleviate queasiness. Look for drinks made with real ginger or try grating fresh ginger into hot tea.

Be Hydrated

Being hydrated is very important throughout your pregnancy. It become necessity even more so if you’ve been unable to keep anything down. If you are vomiting several times a day, or not able to eat and drink at all without being sick, you may be dehydrated, which is why you feel so bad.Try flavoring your water with lemon or lime if you’re having difficulty meeting an eight-glass per day requirement.
