Sulbha Bathwal, a mom of toddler twins, makes the most of the days leading to Valentines Day by putting together some really creative DIY valentine day activities.
She prefers doing easy activities with easily available materials at home and more importantly always involves her sons in each and every activity.
Since Valentines day was around the corner, she did many related activities which helped her toddlers with fine motor skills, language, mathematics, hand eye coordination, imaginative skills, art and craft etc.
1. Transferring coloured rice with spoon
This is a activity which built hand eye coordination, fine motor skills and concentration in toddlers. For this we need just 2 bowls, spoon , rice(I prefer coloured as they are fascinated by colours)
2. Sensory basket
For creating a valentines day sensory basket, she used all the red colour things available at home like I coloured pasta red, pompom, pipe cleaners, rice and added alphabets “love”. The boys explored the basket for good 30-40 minutes
3. Cutting skills
She drew a heart on a piece of paper and her boys had to cut using scissors
4. Imaginative play
She cut out few foam heart pieces and stuck some eyes on them. They made different things out of those heart, this helped the kids think out of the box.
5. Art and craft
She cut a heart shape on any chart paper coloured or white. Then her boys glued the heart shaped papers together, coloured them and made a beautiful card for their dadda.
6. Chopping strawberry
Here we used toddlers friendly knife and learnt basic skills of chopping.
7. Making shapes
The kids were gave few pipecleaners in red colours and they had to make different shapes.
At the end of it all, they had loads of DIY creative gifts to give the family for Valentines Day.
