Childhood memories are the best memories. And a lot of things from our childhood don’t exist anymore. Walk down memory lane and show some of this to the children around you.
Fountain Pen
We only wrote so that we could refill the ink from the ink bottle. And don’t forget the messy hands and ink stains for which mom used to scold.
Paper Boats
During monsoons our favourite time when schools got closed due to rains. We saved our day by making paper boats and sailing them in the flooded by lanes and seeing how long they lasted
Pepsi ice-cream sticks
Popsicles of various flavors tasting like solidified cold drinks were sealed in plastic wrappings and had to be sucked through the plastic. These were sold at almost every traffic signal during the summers.
Phantom Cigarettes
These peppermint flavored ciggies made us feel like adults. And we used to have them in style like smoking a cigarette.
Stapu/ Hopscotch
This was a popular playground game in which players toss a small object into numbered spaces of a pattern of rectangles outlined on the ground and then hop or jump through the spaces to retrieve the object. Remember how difficult it was to NOT step on the white lines?
Orkut
Even though it had a really short life, it did result in lots of people dating, getting married etc. Also, it was much less time-consuming.
Uncle Chipps
Probably the first brand of potato chips in Indian market was available as plain salted wafers. These packets were our companion in our long train journeys to our grand mother’s house.
Comic books
Remember the times when during our vacations we could not wait to go to our nearest book store to get those comics – Chacha Chowdhary, Super Commando Dhruv, Naagraj, Billu, Pinki – to make our afternoons a little less long and boring?
Walkman
Your love of music was in the form of collection of audio cassettes of your favorite songs. And you listened to those 90s memorable songs only on this. This was your late night partner in studies.
Doordarshan
Lastly, let’s not forget Doordharshan on which we watched Rangoli every Sunday and Chitrahaar every Wednesday. The epic serials of Ramayan and Mahabharat every Sunday and cartoons like Duck Tales, Tom & Jerry, Junglebook defined our childhood.
Say cheers to childhood and tell us if you did all these and some more when you were a kid.
