5 Ways to Efficiently Manage Work and Kids During Vacation

Summer vacation isn’t a holiday for working mothers. The office workload remains the same and there’s plenty, plenty more to do on the home front. The kids are home, which means laid-back mornings, special snack requests, lots of friends over, a messy home and whines like “but what should I do”.

How does a working mom navigate these tricky waters and ensure that she stays on top of work even as her children enjoy their summer vacation? Try these simple tips this year to make this time fun – for the entire family!

Here are some options on how you can manage both

1. Work from home– Working from home is a modern day phenomenon! Working from home makes it possible for a mother to be a full time mother and give her best at work too.

2. Explore summer camps and register your child for one– These days, there’s a summer camp based on almost any topic. Ask your child what interests them – whether they love to draw, play basketball, or learn new languages, there’s sure to be a class, team, or camp where they can learn more about their passions. Plus, it’s a great way for them to meet new friends who also share their interests.

3. Plan for alternate timings– Working moms have a lot on their plate, and it’s their right to ask daddy to take a bite. A big one! Figure out how the spouse can get involved in childcare during these busy months. Maybe he takes over for an hour every day — trip to the park, takes them swimming or does the bedtime ritual. If you work best at different hours, snag nighttime for yourself and let him have the a.m. hours. Your partner can leave early and be  back early. You can leave late and spend time with the child.

4.Build a parent team– Joining hands with other working mothers — be they friends, relatives or colleagues — can help women manage summer vacation just like they manage work: as a team. Reach out to other moms for play dates, group activities, car pools or picnics.

 5. Take Help– If you’re lucky enough to have your child’s grandparents living nearby, you can take their help.  It gives you a great sense of comfort that they can watch your precious baby or toddler. You know they love and care for your kids and will take care of them to the very best of their abilities.
