My journey from size M to XXXL to L

I have always been a foodie, who hated workouts, gym and diets. I weighed 68 kilos when I got married. For some reason, the very thought of treadmill would make me yawn and I also dreaded using rest of the gym equipment. Little over a year into my marriage, I delivered my first child. Since then, I had only seen an increase in my weight. I started with workout routines, charted out diet plans, enrolled in gym, yoga, Zumba etc but I could never live through them for even a week.

By the time my daughter was five, I was weighing 83Kilos, and was pregnant with my second child. After the 8th month scan, I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and that’s the first time in my entire life when I started religiously following a diet schedule. However, everything went for a toss when Dengue fever struck a week before delivery date. Little did I realize, that I had put on 8kgs within that week.

Post-delivery, doctors, family and friends – all assured me that I would lose extra weight within no time. In contrary, my weight increased astronomically. Soon, I was diagnosed with Mild-Rheumatoid Arthritis and CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) and Orthopedics advised me that I should loose 25kgs to lead a comfortable life. Every muscle and joint in my body were aching. Once I went shopping and was terrified looking at myself in the mirrors on all four walls of the trial room. That image of self in those mirrors haunted me for days. One morning, I was standing on the scale, weighing 95 Kilos, not knowing where to start and what to do!! I totally lost hope of getting back in shape.

I don’t remember when exactly, but surely after the mirror incident, I had started taking rice only once a day. In few weeks, for the first time, my weighing scale gave me good news. I started to lose weight, but it was very slow. After my body got conditioned to less rice, I stopped taking solids after 06:00 PM. To pump up metabolism, started walking for 20-30 mins a day, 5 days a week. Now, weight loss was consistent. Gradually, walking became a hobby and I started walking upto 1 hour a day which included running for 20-30 mins. Then I found Jillean Michaels Level 1 30 Day shed program which I started following 5 days a week.

At the end of 2 years, here I am weighing 75 kgs, laughing back at those mirrors, fitting in L size. The mantra is to not to look for motivation. Motivation fades away. Whatever you want to do, make it a habit. This takes time, but, the moment something becomes a habit, it is very difficult to let go of it. A habit never feels as a burden, it becomes a part of your routine life. This results in consistency and that is my Mantra.
